Not long after I found out I was getting an XBOX 360 for Christmas 2008 I began searching the Internet for any mods/hacks that I could do while awaiting it’s arrival. After watching multiple videos on how to crack the case to make the XBOX 360 run copied/backed up games. I decided I wanted to play with my XBOX Live account for at least awhile before they band my machine and voided my warranty.
So I took another route and turned my XBOX 360 into a media interface for all of my videos, music and pictures. Now this is a fairly easy project regardless of which direction you take. Obviously, if you already have a Windows Media Server running on your network then it really is just plug and play.
For those of you like me that aren’t running Windows Media Server you can still get the same benefits without having to spend the bucks on upgrading your Windows OS to the Media Server Edition. This is all possible because of TVersity.
TVersity, basically makes any Windows computer into a media server that the XBOX 360 can connect too. This will allow you to have all of your downloaded movies, music and pictures available for viewing/listening through your TV. As an added bonus (aside from game playing) if you have a Netflix account you can watch movies directly from your XBOX 360 from Netflix with the on demand feature.
So, let’s get started!
What you’ll need…
1) Windows OS computer (XP, Vista or Windows 7 will work)
2) XBOX 360
3) A copy of TVersity. Get it here.
4) The Windows computer and the XBOX 360 on the same network. (Basically, if you have internet and can play on XBOX Live then they’re probably connected).
Step 1
Download Tversity onto your Windows Computer.
Step 2
Install Tversity on to your Windows computer.
* this is basically hitting the next button over and over as each component installs.
Step 3
Make sure all of your media is in these three folders My Videos, My Music and My Pictures are shared. This is the default location that Tversity looks when the program starts up and does the initial scan.
Step 4
Start the Tversity Media Server (Open Tversity).
Step 5
Select Library > Folders And watch as Tversity scans My Videos, My Music and My Pictures for media. Once the circles have stopped spinning you’re ready to move on to setting up your XBOX 360 to see your Tversity Media server.
Step 6
Start up your XBOX 360
Step 7
On your XBOX 360 go to My XBOX -> System Settings -> Network Settings and then select Test PC Connection.
Once the test is completed you will see your computer listed as TVersity on computername
Step 8
Back out of your XBOX 360 and sign back in to your profile.
Step 9
Go to My XBOX-> Then select either My Videos, My Music or My Pictures and enjoy.
